RELEASE: Priorities USA Supports Vet Voice Foundation in Michigan Case to Protect Voter Registration Sites

July 25, 2024

WASHINGTON, D.C. — On Wednesday, July 24th, Vet Voice Foundation filed to intervene and seek dismissal of a case brought by the RNC, the Michigan Republican Party, the Trump Campaign, and the elected clerk of Georgetown Township challenging the designation of Veterans Affairs and Small Business Administration offices in Michigan as voter registration agencies.

By aiming to eliminate voter registration at VA and SBA offices, this case threatens to remove a critical avenue for voter registration for Vet Voice Foundation’s members, as well as other Michiganders who wish to register to vote.

“On behalf of our over 125,000 supporters in Michigan and the nearly half million Veterans in the state, we’re proud to stand up for the voting rights of Veterans and have the support of Priorities,” said Janessa Goldbeck, Marine Veteran and CEO of the Vet Voice Foundation. “Voting is a sacred right. Millions of Americans fought and died in uniform to protect it. To say that Veterans shouldn’t be able to register to vote when they visit a Veterans center doesn’t just attack democracy, it attacks the very people who put their lives on the line to protect it.”

“This is a blatant attempt by Republicans to make registering to vote less accessible,” said Danielle Butterfield, Executive Director of Priorities USA. “This case should be dismissed immediately to allow VA and SBA offices to resume conducting voter registration as they have been.”
