Priorities USA Action Launches Six-Figure Ad Buy to Hold Republicans Accountable for Inciting Violence and Promoting Election Lies
Today, Priorities USA Action announced a six-figure ad buy highlighting the dangerous policies and rhetoric promoted by political allies of Donald Trump. The ads will hold Republican officials accountable who are continuing efforts to delegitimize the 2020 election and campaigning on the same conspiracy theories that led to the violent January 6th insurrection.
The initial ad buy will include ‘Coup’ and ‘You Were Right’, running in battleground states and specifically targeting voters who are consuming less political news since Donald Trump left office. The ads draw a direct connection between the tragedy of January 6th and the Republicans that Donald Trump has endorsed who have explicitly vowed to subvert the will of the voters in future elections. Advertising on digital platforms like Facebook and streaming TV, Priorities will reach voters with this essential information on the platforms where they are already spending their time.
Priorities’ research shows that although voters want to tune politics out after the chaos of the Trump presidency, they are still concerned about Donald Trump regaining power and promoting lies and extremism. One year after an insurrection breached the Capitol at the behest of Donald Trump, Republicans across the country continue to question the legitimacy of duly elected officials and promote unfounded conspiracy theories.
Democrats must communicate to voters that these threats to our democracy could be carried out by Republicans who are on the ballot in 2022. The ads from Priorities make clear that voters used their power to defeat Donald Trump and their vote is the only thing that will stop his dangerous allies from taking control of Congress in 2022.
“Our country is still mourning the lives we lost because of the violent insurrection on January 6th. We have an obligation to prevent those who enabled this tragedy from holding power ever again,” said Priorities USA Deputy Executive Director Aneesa McMillan. “January 6th was not an isolated incident. The Republican Party has sought to delegitimize our elections by implementing voter suppression laws that disproportionately disenfranchise Black and brown Americans, intimidating voters and election officials, and promoting lies and conspiracy theories in their campaigns. Priorities will continue to call out these anti-democratic efforts unequivocally and communicate the facts about Donald Trump’s Republican Party to the American people.”
