IN NEW HAMPSHIRE, PRIORITIES USA LAUNCHES DIGITAL ADS OPPOSING CONTROVERSIAL VOTER SUPPRESSION BILL

Ad Buy Will Urge New Hampshire Voters to Contact Three Key Legislators Pushing the Bill

WASHINGTON, DC — Beginning Friday, Priorities USA will launch a digital ad campaign to urge the defeat of voter suppression legislation currently under consideration in the New Hampshire state legislature. The ads will appear ahead of a potential key committee vote that may take place next week on the legislation, known as Senate Bill 3 (SB 3).

The ads will target voters in New Hampshire on both Facebook and Twitter. When voters click on the ads, they will be directed to contact information for the following state senators currently supporting the restrictive voting bill:

  • Senator Regina Birdsell (R-Hampstead) — Chair of the Senate Election Law & Internal Affairs Committee and the prime sponsor of SB 3.
  • Senator James Gray (R-Rochester) — Vice Chair of the Senate Election Law & Internal Affairs Committee and a co-sponsor of SB 3.
  • Senator Andy Sanborn (R-Bedford) — member of the Senate Election Law & Internal Affairs Committee and a co-sponsor of SB 3.

Senate Bill 3 would make it more difficult to vote in New Hampshire by altering the voter eligibility criteria in a way that would suppress votes, confuse the voting process, and discourage new state residents from registering to vote in the first place. It would require voters to provide documentation proving their intent to establish a domicile in the state and empower the police to visit homes and fine citizens who cannot do so. These new domicile requirements also exclude residency at New Hampshire colleges and universities, effectively disenfranchising students.

“There has been such an outpouring of grassroots activity against this bill, it appears to have even taken its sponsors aback,” said Patrick McHugh, executive director of Priorities USA.

“We want to help empower and inform even more Granite Staters about this harmful proposal because it is clear that the more voters learn about it, the more intense the opposition becomes.”

The ads continue Priorities’ expanded digital presence in 2017, which has included campaigns urging voters in competitive GOP-held congressional districts to attend town hall meetings and informing voters who would be adversely affected by the Republicans’ health care plan about the details of the president’s proposal.
