Statement from Priorities USA on the Freedom to Vote Act
Today, the Freedom to Vote Act was blocked by Senate Republicans. The Freedom to Vote Act would protect the franchise for millions and failure to pass the legislation is a direct threat to American democracy. Aneesa McMillan, who leads voting rights efforts as Deputy Executive Director of Priorities USA, issued the following statement:
“We are incredibly disappointed that yet another effort to protect and expand the right to vote has failed in Congress. The Republican Party will do everything they can to block crucial voting rights legislation because they know that suppressing the vote is their only path to power. Priorities USA is doing everything in our power, through litigation and voter education, to safeguard voting rights. Our work will continue to center the marginalized communities who are disproportionately impacted by voter suppression as we look to Congress to do their part to protect the sacred right to vote.”
