Statement from Priorities USA Executive Director Danielle Butterfield on the Anniversary of the Dobbs v. Jackson Supreme Court Decision
Washington, D.C. — Today, Priorities USA Executive Director Danielle Butterfield issued the following statement marking the anniversary of the Dobbs v. Jackson Supreme Court decision that reversed Roe v. Wade and overturned the constitutional right to an abortion:
“The past year has unleashed an unprecedented crisis in health care after the Supreme Court’s ruling in the Dobbs decision delivered a fateful blow to reproductive rights. The impact, though far-reaching, has uniquely endangered Black and brown women, low-income women, and those in the LGBTQ+ community who continue to face higher-risk scenarios and a reduced number of options when accessing abortion care and other basic health services. Calls to affirm life for these communities, coupled with the fact that a majority of Americans across the ideological spectrum are in favor of abortion rights, have been met with silence and blatant disregard from Republican lawmakers who have shown us once again that their undemocratic efforts are more about protecting partisan interests than protecting life.
As voters asserted their support for reproductive care in the 2022 midterm elections and through referendums in multiple states over the past year, Priorities has continued to center abortion access as a top concern in our messaging to highlight the ongoing threat to reproductive freedoms and mobilize voters at the ballot box. We will remain committed to centering these issues in all of our work to remind voters of what is at stake in upcoming elections.”
