Priorities Statement on the Results of the 2024 Election
Priorities USA Executive Director Danielle Butterfield released the following statement on the results of the presidential election:
“We are disheartened by the outcome of Tuesday night’s results.
“The challenges we face as the Democratic Party are broad. Priorities plans to conduct analysis alongside our partners and allies to better understand why and how we lost, and, more importantly, how we move forward. We also hope to have open dialogues with our partners in this fight, grounded in humility. It’s immediately clear there is extensive work we need to do to effectively articulate Democrats’ vision for the country, break through in our fractured media environment, and earn the votes of young people and people of color.
“It is abundantly clear from initial results that we did not do enough to win over young voters or voters of color. Unfortunately this is not a new lesson, and one that we have time and time again failed to adequately address. We look forward to the tough and introspective conversations, and more importantly the action it will take to fully address our weaknesses and rebuild our party anchored in how we move forward.
“Priorities is proud to have run nearly all of our programs this cycle in partnership, working with groups who know their communities best. We thank our partners American Federation of Teachers, BlackPAC, Care Can’t Wait, Campaign for a Family Friendly Economy, Commonwealth Communications, Equis Research, Human Rights Campaign, League of Conservation Voters, NAACP, One APIA Nevada, Our Voice Our Vote Arizona, Progress Georgia, Reproductive Freedom for All, Somos Votantes and Somos PAC, among our many allies, for all of their work up and down the ballot.
“In these coming weeks and months, we will balance our need to conduct retrospective analysis of the obstacles we failed to overcome, while also keeping an eye on the horizon. We will look ahead with a firm promise to continue our work of electing Democrats and fighting for values and policies to improve the lives of Americans. The pushback efforts we witnessed during Trump’s first term were successful because we welcomed new ideas and perspectives, and centered voters’ impact in our efforts. Priorities remains committed to facilitating opportunities for new ideas to flourish.”
