Statement from Priorities USA Chairman Guy Cecil on the Retirement of Justice Stephen Breyer
Today, Priorities USA Chairman Guy Cecil issued the following statement in response to Justice Stephen Breyer’s intention to retire from the Supreme Court of the United States:
“Our country is a better, more just place because of Justice Breyer’s service on our highest court. Justice Breyer stood for our nation’s highest ideals and consistently ruled that every American had a sacred right to equal protection under the law. His decisions to safeguard the right to vote, to protect the rights of the LGBT community, and to affirm the right to an abortion secure his legacy as a defender of progress.
“I am confident that President Biden’s nominee for associate justice to the Supreme Court will staunchly defend the right to equality and justice for all. Our country is in the midst of a coordinated effort to exploit our courts, roll back progress, and chip away at the rights we have fought so hard for. The right to vote, the right to choose, and the right to equal protection under the law are all on the line. I am positive that President Biden will choose a distinguished defender of the law to serve in this essential seat of our government.”
