Statement from Priorities USA Chairman Guy Cecil on Google’s Decision to Allow Blatantly False Ads on Their Platform
Today, the Washington Post reported that Google has decided to allow misleading ads regarding vote by mail to remain on its platform. In response, Priorities USA Chairman Guy Cecil issued the following statement:
“As the nation grapples with a public health crisis and coordinated attacks against access to the ballot, it is shameful that Google would allow misinformation campaigns on their platforms. Millions of Americans will rely on voting by mail to make their voices heard at the polls without risking their health to do so. Despite the fact that Google has censored Priorities USA advertising that simply tells the truth about the hate and racism supported by the Trump administration, they have decided it’s perfectly fine to profit off of the spread of demonstrably false information that threatens the integrity of our democracy. Companies like Google have an obligation to serve their users accurate information, especially when access to the ballot is at stake.”
