“We Want to Terminate Health Care”: Priorities USA Action Launches New Digital Ads Highlighting Donald Trump’s Attacks on Health Care During a Pandemic
This afternoon, Donald Trump sat in the Oval Office and proudly proclaimed that “we want to terminate health care.” This evening, Priorities USA Action is including these comments in new digital ads in both English and Spanish holding Trump accountable for his attacks on Americans’ health care in the midst of a global pandemic.
Despite the fact that thousands of Americans are getting sick and losing their jobs and insurance every day, the Trump administration is still in court trying to strike down the Affordable Care Act. The ACA guarantees that Americans with pre-existing conditions, including those who have had the coronavirus, cannot be denied health care coverage. Polling consistently shows that Trump’s attempts to repeal the ACA are among the most troubling facts for voters considering their 2020 vote choice.
Even in the midst of a public health crisis, the Trump administration is committed to “terminating” the Affordable Care Act, potentially stripping millions of Americans of access to health care coverage. “Pause” focuses on the 133 million Americans who could lose coverage during a deadly pandemic if Donald Trump gets his way in court. Priorities has now spent more than $11 million on ads related to Trump’s failed response to coronavirus. The spot is part of an ongoing digital campaign that is spending about $1 million per week across battleground states.
“Donald Trump’s attempts to terminate Americans’ health care will directly lead to Americans terminating Donald Trump’s presidency in November. We are facing a public health emergency. The last thing American families should worry about is losing their health care,” said Patrick McHugh, Executive Director of Priorities USA Action. “At a time when Americans need access to affordable, quality health care more than ever, the fact that Donald Trump is still fighting to strip health care from millions is unconscionable. Donald Trump’s continued attacks on health care demonstrate that his failed leadership is unfocused and unprepared to meet the challenges at hand.”
