Priorities USA Statement on GOP’s Fourth Attempt to Intervene in the Michigan Courts to Challenge Key Voting Rights Wins

Today, Priorities USA filed a brief in the Michigan Supreme Court opposing a motion by Republicans that asked the state high court to reconsider their earlier ruling barring the GOP from intervening in a key voting rights case.  The case is part of Priorities USA’s Four Pillars litigation, which successfully challenged both a state ban on voters seeking assistance turning in their ballots and the state’s restrictive Election Day receipt deadline for ballots.  The motion to intervene, filed by the Republican National Committee and the Michigan Republican Party, was already denied by a lower court as well as on appeal first to the state Court of Appeals then to the state Supreme Court.  Upon filing this brief opposing Republicans’ fourth attempt to intervene, Priorities USA issued the following statement:

“This case has been settled on three separate occasions in front of the Michigan Court of Claims and then the state Supreme Court,” said Guy Cecil, Chairman of Priorities USA.  “It is clear that Donald Trump and Michigan Republicans are threatened by earlier rulings making it easier for Michigan voters to cast their ballots in a safe, timely fashion.  We are prepared to defend these wins on behalf of voters and trust that the Michigan Supreme Court will see through the GOP’s desperate antics.”
