Priorities USA Invested $7.8 Million in Black Voter Outreach During 2022 Election Cycle

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Priorities USA announced a total investment of $7.8 million specifically targeted to reach Black voters over the 2022 cycle in Pennsylvania, Arizona, Michigan, Nevada, Wisconsin, Georgia and New Hampshire.

By centering Black voters’ concerns about their families and communities, Priorities is effectively engaging voters beyond a call to “just vote.” Priorities’ outreach efforts center the history and political power of the Black community and highlight the high stakes of the 2022 election. These efforts focus on earning the support of Black voters, and Priorities utilizes cutting-edge research to more effectively reach Black communities on the digital platforms where they spend their time. Importantly, building trust and support with Black voters is critical to protecting their fundamental rights and pushing back against GOP extremism.

This necessary work was also made possible through collaborations with Black-led organizations like Black Progressive Action Coalition and Color Of Change who work to build long-term power in Black communities.

Additionally, this year, Priorities conducted extensive polling and published a memo to better understand Black voters’ key issues. This research is crucial, and not only informs Priorities’ campaigns but also informs the strategy of the broader progressive space to strengthen Black voter engagement overall.

Priorities was also early to acknowledge that Black voters are not just a “mobilization audience.” Persuasion campaigns that are tailored to these communities are critical to continue to build trust and lasting support for Democratic candidates.

Finally, Priorities’ long standing investments in voting rights litigation and direct voter education consistently center Black voters who are disproportionately impacted by voter suppression efforts. Priorities has invested over $50 million since 2015 to combat voter suppression that deliberately targets Black voters.

“Black voters are a critical part of the Democratic coalition and Priorities has consistently prioritized early, consistent and creative digital campaigns that put them at the center of the conversation. There is always more work to be done, but Priorities has helped to lay a strong foundation to build the outreach infrastructure that Black voters deserve while drawing a strong, clear contrast with right-wing Republicans,” said Aneesa McMillan, Deputy Executive Director of Priorities USA.
